Granite Belt a Courier Mail Top Gourmet Getaway

Natascha Mirosch, Food Editor of the Courier Mail names the Granite Belt as a Top Gourmet Getaway.

Want to get away from the city but not necessarily forgo the comforts of home and hearth? Within a three-hour radius of Queensland's capital are some pretty special places with something to offer both your sanity and your stomach.

The focus is naturally on wine in Queensland's best known grape region. Designate a driver or join a tour of some of the many cellar doors in the area. There are plenty of casual places to eat. Some wineries have eateries attached, such as the Barrel Room Cafe, Vineyard Cafe and Shiraz at Ballandean.

Sutton's is the place to gather bags of granny smiths, pink ladies and more in season. Pick up some cheese at Karen Deeth's Granite Belt Dairy, olives from Stirling Olives, and handmade chocolate at Heavenly Chocolates. Accommodation is mainly self-contained or B&B style.
